Chapter 1

After knowing that there were two identical wedding rings,my heart felt like it was being stabbed by needles.

After all,I designed that ring myself.The inner circle was inlaid with the date we met and names of the two of us.

That was why I did not expect that the other one would have the exact design like mine,with the names and the date they met in the inner circle.

I thought that was something very special and unique to us,but in the end,I was just a complete clown.

I smiled bitterly and put the ring that belonged to them back.

When I turned around and left,I threw my ring into the trash can.However,I calmed down as I walked,as if I did not care anymore.

After walking out of the gold shop,I felt the slightly cool breeze.That was so good,since it made my confused mind gradually become clear.

Just when I was about to call Alvin Murphy,my boyfriend,to question him about the ring,I saw the message he sent me three minutes ago.

He said he was waiting for me at a nearby restaurant.

As a result,I took a look and walked towards the restaurant.

In my confusion,I finally arrived at the destination and followed the waiter's instructions.

I saw Alvin standing in front of the window with his back to me,talking on the phone.

He said in a low voice,“Please help me buy a house for Mary in your name and don't let Cynthia find out.”

I looked at the familiar figure and suddenly felt disappointed by him.

Soon,he said again,“I love her,I can't give up Mary.”

He walked towards me and pulled out the chair closest to me before explaining,“It was a call from the company,reminding me that I have a meeting in the afternoon and asked me to go back early.”

I nodded,not exposing his lame excuse.

“Then serve the food.You can go back early after lunch.”

He called the waiter to serve the food and looked at me.“How is the ring?Did it meet your expectations?”

My smile faded a little and I nodded perfunctorily,saying,“It is pretty nice,but there's one thing that surprised me.I have another one exactly like my custom-made ring.”

After that,I didn’t say more.

Alvin's eyes moved slightly,his expression a little unnatural when he responded by,“Maybe something went wrong.I will go take a look this afternoon then.”

I did not say anything about that,but my heart completely turned cold.

He stared at me,as if wondering why I was so silent today.After all,when we were together,I was always the one who talked most.

I liked to share with him the interesting things I encountered.I also liked talking in his ear all the time.

He was very patient at first and would make a few comments from time to time.

Alvin and I were childhood sweethearts,since we had known each other since kindergarten.

Alvin asked,“Is the food not to your liking?”

I took a quick look and saw that many dishes on the table were added with chili peppers.But I could not eat spicy food.

It was Mary.She was wearing a dress and pushed open the door with a smile.

Her smile to me was not as bright as the one to Alvin.

“Eat more if you like.”

“Cynthia,if you want to eat something,just order it.”

Alvin handed me the menu and I refused with a smile,“No,I saw something disgusting this morning and now I just want to vomit,I don't have much appetite.”

He frowned slightly,“What is it?”

I pretended to be casual and said,“It's my friend.Her boyfriend is dating another girl behind her back.He ate the food she cooked every day and then ate the food cooked by his mistress.Today,she got stomach erosion and had surgery in the hospital.My friend sent me a photo and it was so disgusting.

After finishing our lunch,Alvin offered to take me home,but I refused.

He said,“Then I will take Mary back to school.Please be careful on your way back.”

Mary smiled shyly and spoke carefully,not as relaxed as at the beginning,“No need,Alvin,you should just send Cynthia home.I can take a taxi back to school.”

Maybe she was afraid that I would discover their shameful relationship.After all,if I knew,I would cut off the funding for her.

She was reluctant to let go of Alvin,nor was she willing to give up my kindness to her.

She just wanted to have it all.

Before I could refuse,Alvin spoke in a cold voice,with a sense of oppression that could not be ignored,“Cynthia will go back by herself,there is no need for you to worry about her.But you,your school is so remote,it is not safe to take a taxi,I will take you there.”

Mary looked at me embarrassedly and opened the passenger door naturally.“Then I won't be polite.”

Then,she opened the car window and waved to me,“Goodbye,Cynthia,please be careful on the road.”

I watched them leave and my expression gradually darkened.

I calmly avoided his arms and jumped onto another single sofa.

When Mary started her freshman year in college,I went to help her and knew the layout of her dormitory.

Without waiting for my response,he slammed the door and walked out angrily.However,he didn't know that what I said was not an attempt to keep him.

But obviously,I lost to another woman.

I had a car in the garage,so I packed my things and drove straight home.
