Desperate to claim me, but I've moved on

Chapter 1
Kyla's POV
I clutch my purse tightly to my chest as I stare at my phone screen, the name Vincent was boldly written as the caller ID. I can't believe he dared to call me after what he was about to do.
I would have ignored but I felt like this was something I had to do, so I bottled all my emotions and swiped left on the phone screen. "Kyla where are you!" Vincent yelled as soon as I picked up the phone.
"What do you want from me, Vincent?" I asked calmly ignoring his question.
"What are you on about?" He sounded confused "The wedding is about to start and Ava has been waiting for you. She doesn't have anyone in Virginia except you!"
I still can't believe he thought I would agree to stand as Ava's family after the betrayal, after all, they had put me through, how gullible does he think I am?
"If you are still worried about the current situation of things, don't worry I will marry you after two years just as promised" he continued but I was fed up with his lies and constant bickering.
"There is no need for that Vincent, I am already married" I replied plainly.
He let out a sarcastic laugh before saying "Don't be ridiculous babe, we've been together for seven years, Plus we are mates, you have my mark on you, there is no one in the world for you than me"
It's funny how he remembered the bond we shared for seven years yet he had abandoned our vows for a mundane girl he had known for just three months.
"The moon goodness has blessed me with a second chance mate, from this moment on I REJECT YOU" Without another word I hung up the call and blocked his number.
I pulled my head backward and closed my eyes as tears threatened to spill, but I didn't want to waste my tears on a man who betrayed my trust and took me for granted.
I pulled myself together, adjusted my dress, and got into the car. "I am ready, let's go," I said to my husband sitting next to me, whom I barely knew.
THREE WEEK EARLIER***
I stood in my room, my phone still clutched in my hand as I gazed out the window. My conversation with my mother still lingered in my mind. "I don't know what you are talking about Mom."
Her confusion was palpable, even over the phone. "Kyla it's not a secret anymore, the whole of the blood moon pack knows Vincent is getting married to some human girl" she stated.
"Come home dear, let mother take your pain away, that's what we do as omegas."
I paused, collecting my thoughts before responding, "I have to go mom, I will talk to you later." I said and ended the call immediately, I was too ashamed to face my family after they warned me years back that this would happen.
But I was blinded by love, I left everything behind including my gift as an omega just because I wanted to be happy but look where it got me.
My reverie was interrupted by the sound of my door opening. Ava walked in with a bright smile plastered on her face. "Kyla, can you please come with me to pick out my wedding dress?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
I stared at the woman my fiance was getting married to, my eyebrow raised and my tone icy. "Do you not know how to knock before entering someone else's room?"
Ava's expression faltered, and she looked at me with feigned pain. "I was just too excited, you don't have to be rude".
So she truly was overjoyed, I laughed coldly to myself. What a fraud, feigning innocence.
Vincent appeared behind Ava, his voice low and smooth. "You're about to become the mistress of this house. You can do as you please." Ava flushed with embarrassment, but Vincent's words only served to fuel my anger.
As I watched them leave, I felt a pang of sadness. Just three months ago, I was the one planning a wedding with Vincent. We met in college, shortly after then we discovered we were mates and since then our love has been all-consuming.
But my family never accepted him, according to them he was holding me back from reaching my full potential as an omega because all the women in my family are omegas. And as the only child to the Alpha of the blood moon pack everyone excepted me to marry well, because my husband would become the next Alpha.
I defied my family and stayed in Virginia after graduation, all for him even though they had threatened to cut me off.
I used my connections to help him start up a business. Two years later, he became a multimillionaire, and he finally proposed and promised me a grand wedding. At the time, I thought we were set to grow old together.
But then Ava appeared, and I realized how foolish I had been to silently sacrifice everything.
Chapter 2
Kyla's POV
I run a charity program where I heal people who couldn't afford their hospital bills due to financial reasons, that's the only way I could stay in touch with my gift as an omega and Ava was one of the people I had anonymously helped.
Somehow, she had found out my address and came to Virginia after graduating. Crying, she told me her family was going through some financial issues, she needed a job and a place to stay for a while.
That wasn't my specialty but Vincent, seeing her pitiful state, not only let her stay but also arranged an internship for her at his company. At first, he complained often about her.
"She is clumsy, she can't even do a simple job right. Are humans always like this?" he would complain bitterly "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't bother with her."
With time, I noticed him growing more and more attached to her, he drove her to and from work, let her nap in his office, and even went out of his way to smooth over her workplace relationships.
But I wasn't worried because she was a mundane, human, and werewolves are like oil and water, we don't mix. We perceive their kind as weak, "there is no way he was interested in her," I would say to myself anytime he does something sweet for her.
Ava has this innocent and naive look that makes you want to help her, I guess it's common in humans, they all look fragile.
But when a friend of mine traveled out of the country and told me to rent out her flat, I thought it would be a good opportunity for Ava to move in so me and Vincent could have a sought of privacy.
I stood in the doorway, Ava's tears streamed down her face as she clung to me, begging not to be kicked out. I was taken aback by her reaction, having only suggested that she move into my friend's vacant flat nearby.
"I am not kicking you out..." Before I could calm her down, Vincent stormed into the house, his eyes blazing with anger as he positioned himself in front of Ava.
"Kayla, I can't believe you would do this, Ava has been nothing but kind to you" he snapped, his tone accusatory.
I felt a surge of frustration at his misconception, but before I could explain, he turned to Ava and cooed, "Don't worry, Ava. This is my house. No one has the right to kick you out, not even Kyla"
I took a deep breath and tried to reason with him. "It's not what you think Vincent, there is a misunderstanding. I just think it would be more convenient for Ava to have her own space. My friend's flat is nearby, and she'd be more comfortable living on her own."
"Besides, we are getting married soon, and she can't stay with us forever."
But Vincent refused to listen. Instead, he accused me of being narrow-minded and jealous. "Ava is still trying to figure her way in Virginia, a city full of werewolves. How am I sure she would be safe in your friend's apartment."
His expression turned condescending, and he sneered, "Or is it that you're jealous of Ava? Afraid she'll take your place in my life?"
"Jealous of a mundane...," I let out a laugh full of mockery, "You sound ridiculous Vincent."
"Why? You don't think I can leave you for her?" he replied, his voice begging me to dare him.
I stared at him, stunned, barely able to believe the words coming out of his mouth. This was the same man who once swore he'd love only me for the rest of his life. Suddenly, he felt like a stranger, one I didn't recognize and was terrified to confront.
The tension between us was palpable, and our relationship devolved into a cold war. He moved into the study and I slept in the bedroom. The distance between us grows with each passing day.
Chapter 3
Kyla's POV
Two weeks later, Vincent and I still hadn't resolved our argument. Vincent didn't speak to me, and neither had I. Ava stopped coming to me for help. Anything she needed, she'd ask Vincent, which wasn't how things were before.
In the past, our arguments never lasted for half a day. Whenever Vincent and I had problems, he'd be the one to try and fix them and apologize. However, this time was different and extremely frustrating. He acted so nonchalantly as if nothing had happened.
One morning, I came out of the room to go and get myself some water when I saw Vincent coming out of Ava's bedroom.
I tilted my head at him and crossed my hands across my torso, demanding an explanation.
"Ava had a fever last night, and I didn't want to trouble you, so I took care of her myself," he explained nonchalantly.
My blood boiled with rage.
"Oh really, why didn't you inform me, I am a healer Vincent" I asked, trying as much as possible to reign my anger.
"What are you talking about, I just told you I didn't want to bother you, plus your healing ability sucks," he said, sounding frustrated.
"You didn't know my healing ability sucks when I have been taking your pain away for the past seven years?" I said, raising my voice.
"Can you hear yourself? I did nothing wrong, I just helped someone who was sick, and you're getting upset about it. Why are you being so paranoid?" He said in disbelief.
I was dumbfounded. Is it true? Am I being paranoid over something so trivial? Does my healing ability sucks? Vincent just walked away and left me standing there.
Last weekend, neither Ava nor Vincent returned home from work, which left me worried. I opted to call his office and ask if they had any idea where they were.
The office informed her that Ava and Vincent had gone to Ava's hometown immediately after work because Ava received news about her mother being ill.
I was burning with rage. Why would Vincent not tell me about this? But I was also worried about Ava's mother and her condition. Two days passed, and none of them replied to my messages, took my calls, or returned them.
On the third night, I walked home to meet the most dreadful sight. Vincent was holding a crying Ava in his arms and stroking her hair gently.
Ava was sobbing into his chest as she said, "Vincent, what do I do? How do I fulfill my mother's dying wish? She is all I have."
"I will help you Ava, I'll marry you if need be," He said, stroking her hair. They pulled apart a few seconds later and saw me standing at the doorway, dumbfounded.
Vincent walked up to me and pulled me away. Once we had reached the bedroom, he closed the door and turned to look at me.
I snatched my hand away from his and asked. "What was that?" I spat, anger laced in my voice.
Vincent pinched the bridge of his nose and sealed his eyes shut while tilting his head. After a few seconds, he looked me in the eyes and said.
"I'm marrying Ava."
"What?!" I asked him, narrowing my eyes.
"Her mother's sick, and this was her last wish to see her daughter married." He said.
"What is wrong with her mother? Can I see her?" I asked because i was still confused.
"Kayla please...we both know you can't heal her" Vincent cut in immediately, stating that it wasn't an option.
"And so what? You have to be the one who does the good deed?" I asked with spite laced in my voice.
"Her family already thought I was her fiancé, and I wanted to help," he said softly.
"Oh, really, then what is going to happen to me? What is going to happen to us?" I retorted with tears already welling in my eyes.
Vincent took a step closer to me, and I stepped backward, moving away from him.
"Don't touch me," I warned.
"Kyla, please, you're the only one my heart belongs to, I promise I'll marry you after two years. You've waited this long. Two years shouldn't be anything compared to the seven years you've waited, right?" he said, looking at me with hopeful eyes.
"No...no you can't do this to me" I shook my head, my tears threatening to escape.
"I'm marrying Ava, and that's final," he concluded.
Chapter 4
Kyla's POV
We stepped into Bella's fashion house. This was the fashion house where my wedding dress was made. I didn't want to be here, but Vincent's side remarks pushed me to come.
We were shown where we would wait for the dress to be brought. They served us tea while Ava and Vincent were conversing excitedly. A few seconds later, Vincent's phone rang, and he left to take his call, leaving Ava and me alone.
Ava turned to face me with her cup still in my grasp.
"Oh dear, I can't imagine how you feel right now. Your fiancé is getting married to me, " she said, feigning an innocent smile.
"I didn't mean to steal him, I tried to talk him out of it, but he insisted. Isn't he the sweetest person ever?" She continued. "Do your kind have a special way of mating? Just asking for tips for our wedding night"
"I know this was what you wanted. You planned this all along, you despicable witch," I spat at her.
She immediately spilled the cup of tea out of her hand and instantly let out a scream. Before I could comprehend what happened, Vincent barged in looking alarmed, and Ava began her waterworks.
"What's going on here? What happened? "He asked as his gaze fell on Ava's scorched hand that was a flaming red.
"Why did you have to do this, I know you despise me, but did you have to?" Ava asked between her sobs.
"Kyla, why?" Vincent asked as he held Ava's hand.
I knew what she did there but I wasnt having it "well I would have help with the pain but we both know I can't right!" I replied my gaze fixed on Vincent
"You know what? I can't deal with you right now. " He said, then faced Ava, "Let's go, love, "
He asked a staff member nearby if they had a dispensary and had them lead the way to treat Ava's hand.
I just let out an exasperated sigh and looked down, tears threatening to escape my eyes. Just then, Ava's wedding dress was brought in.
The stylist who brought the dress asked."Where's Ava?"
"Oh, she stepped out for a while.' I replied.
I glanced at the dress and then looked away, not wanting to look at it any longer, but I quickly spun my head back as I remembered a familiar detail on the dress. Sure enough, when I looked back, Ava's wedding dress, or should I say my wedding dress, was staring back at me.
He gave her my wedding dress. I stood up and walked towards the dress, and with each step I took my anger increased. As I was staring at the dress, Ava walked in. She smirked and walked towards me.
"Oh, I see you've seen my dress," she said, smiling innocently.
"What are you doing with my wedding dress?" I asked with anger, leaving my voice.
"Oops, this is my dress now, Vincent had already paid for it, and please enlighten me. What's the use of having a dress when there's no wedding?" She asked maliciously.
"And look at what we have here. Seems we're twinning rings," She said as her eyes fell on my engagement ring before lifting her hand.
I couldn't believe my eyes. It felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped on me. He bought her the same type of ring he used in proposing to me. A ring wore only by our kind.
I didn't know when I pulled the ring out of my finger and dumped it in a nearby bin before I stormed out heartbroken.
I made my way back to the house in a fit of rage.
How dare she?
How dare he?
Why is this happening to me?
These questions ran through my head repeatedly as I packed my bags, I made my way to my friend's home to crash there. I regretted ever crossing paths with both Vincent and Ava.
My parent were right, Vincent only used me to gain power, he knew I was the only child and getting married to me would make him next in line as the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack.
A while later, when I had shed more tears than I could imagine, my phone rang. Vincent's caller ID flashed across the screen. I didn't even have the energy to argue with him, and I didn't want him to disturb me, so I picked up the call.
"Kyla, where are you? What's wrong with you? Why are your things not here? And why is your ring in the trash can?" He rambled immediately. I picked.
"It's over Vincent, have a lovely life with Ava, and please don't contact me again," I said plainly.
"But -" I ended the call before he could talk and switched off my phone.
Chapter 5
Kyla's POV
It's been a week since I left the house, and it's the hardest week of my life, I can't seem to concentrate on anything, all my thoughts were consumed by Vincent, I still couldn't believe I wasted seven years of my life on that man.
I disrespected my family and suppressed my gift as an omega all for him, and what do I get in return? Betrayal! Lies! I hate him!!
I paused what I was doing and took a deep breath, then I continued, I was packing my stuff from my office desk, which I am handing over to the next person today, I resigned a week ago when I broke up with Vincent, since there is nothing left for me in Virginia what's the point of staying.
Later that evening I stepped out for my farewell dinner party which was planned by my werewolves colleagues, at first I wasn't comfortable being there but with time I began to enjoy myself, I couldn't remember the last time I had fun like this.
I was still chatting with my friends when Alpha Jake the company's biggest womanizer approached me, he just took over from his father who had died a week ago from an unknown illness, I remember he had come to me for help but I wasn't able to.
He looked drunk with a bit of confidence. "You know I have a huge crush on you, as the new Alpha of the Blackwood pack I would like you to be my Luna" he began confessing his undying love for me attracting the attention of everyone in the room.
"I am flattered by your words, but I am not interested" I replied in the most polite way possible but that didn't sit right with him.
"How dare you!" He sneered, "You should be grateful I am showing interest in you, we all know your mate dumped you for a mundane" The whole room gasped, and some began to murmur.
As a werewolf the worst thing that can happen to you apart from being rejected by your mate, is being rejected for a human.
"You are just an ungrateful woman!" He spat
A chill coursed through my veins as Alpha Jake's crude tone assaulted my ears. I opened my mouth, ready to deliver a scathing retort, but before I could utter a word, a dark figure swooped in beside me. In an instant, a fist flew through the air, connecting with a sickening crunch to Jake's face. He crumpled to the floor, defeated.
Vincent towered over him, his eyes blazing with icy fury. "How dare you speak to my woman in that manner" he yelled, his voice venomous.
Pandemonium erupted in the room. My colleagues erupted into cheers and whistles, clearly entertained by the sudden display of violence.
A surge of hope rushed through my body as Vincent held my hand and walked me out of the room. Is he back for me? Did he finally realize his mistake? But my hope was crushed when I saw the expression on his face when we got outside
"What are you trying to approve" he squeezed my hands tightly in a way that hurts "There is no way you can break up with me Kayla, we are destined to be together!" He said with so much confidence.
"Why are you here Vincent?" I asked calmly, he seemed surprised by my composure, but I wasn't going to let the man know how much his action was affecting me.
He smiled and handed me a fancy card "I'm here to personally invite you to my wedding with Ava. She said you're her only family in Virginia, she needs your blessing"
His audacity struck me like a punch, who was I dating for seven years?
I maintained my composure. I forced a smile and replied "Of course. I wouldn't miss it for the world."
He seemed satisfied by my answer and gave me a pat on the shoulder "Now that's more like it" he said with a smile on his face "After two years we can have our wedding"
I didn't reply even though I badly wanted to, I just nodded my head and he took that as a sign to leave.
I guess this is where loving a man has gotten me, I sigh and look at the reminder notifications on the screen of my phone.
"Your flight to London is in two hours," it says.
